Dear Friends and Colleagues,
As we prepare for our inaugural conference, we have been asking what gives Pentecostal theology its distinct voice in the academy and the Church.
In The Spirit Poured Out on All Flesh, Amos Yong argues that a distinctively Pentecostal theology must be biblically grounded, theologically grounded, and confessionally located (pp. 27-30). These principles lead us to a central question: Is Pentecostal theology a discipline of the future? This question invites us to reflect on where our theological discourse is heading, and where the Church of Christ is headed with it.
To explore this question, we turn to the Spirit, who stands at the center of Pentecostal faith. Pentecostal spirituality is rooted in a dynamic experience of the Spirit, an experience echoed in Revelation 22:17: "The Spirit and the bride say, 'Come!'" (NIV). The Church does not merely speak about the Spirit; it joins the Spirit's own cry. This lived encounter is more than devotion; it shapes how we think and speak about God. As Yong observes, such experience makes a vital and necessary contribution to contemporary pneumatology.
How do you see Pentecostal theology unfolding in your own context? Join us to explore that question on October 30-31, 2026, in a virtual gathering. Please share this event with others and help us spread the word.
